what we knew

I've been reading some posts on personal internet and advocacy for more people to have their own blogs, aside from social media. a shift in perspective from what we're constantly being exposed to, and going back so what was somewhat the backbone of the internet, the primitive aspect of it as we knew it as kids.

a lot of people in my community talk about the better days of the internet, but when we discuss the idea of keeping a blog, people seem uninterested. not because they feel like their life is boring, but because a lot less people than you'd think actually kept a blog when they were kids. a lot of us were on tumblr, but the vast majority hung out on facebook or twitter.

for me blogging has always lacked the structure of fostering community. tumblr did a lot of that and very effectively until a few years ago, and then it went downhill. I enjoy writing and keeping blogs because I am someone who writes, and I always liked that format. it has worked for me for over 15 years and personally it is a tool for my creativity. however for others blogging is a less enjoyable, much more solitary activity.

my great question is, how do we get over that? I'd love for my friends to come over here, but they won't. it's always been personal, but how do we make it about us, not just me?

I'm not looking for an active answer to this question, but I hope we can give it some thought in 2024.
