returned VAT money
so the government of my country has decided to give back the value added tax (vat) money to people who earn up to 6 minimum wages, for every purchase of essential items. I, for some unknown reason, fall into that category. and I'm saying that in disapproval, because I don't think they should be returning money to me. I am okay with paying my taxes with the wage I make, so I've decided to keep track of whatever's returned back to me and donate it.
it doesn't make me angry, it's just that the bar is a little too high for my liking. they recently also decided that most people wouldn't need to pay income tax, which I do agree with, but I'm not so sure about this.
in the meantime, the congress is putting off debating a new regulation to be passed that can regulate rent across the country. the housing crisis is at its worse, and over 15 million people are affected by it. yet here we are, hoping to see the vat money return in our bank account by the end of the day.
the future is largely uncertain at this point and I am scared. I don't know a single person in this country that is not scared for the outcome of the next two months. I'll try to entertain myself thinking about where my donations could go: the public library? wikipedia? red cross?
